Introduction
On Monday, April 3rd, 2006, then high school junior Bianca Zaharescu watched the Invisible Children documentary. The next day she recruited history teacher Bill Sutton to sponsor a focused and motivated Invisible Children club that would try to make a real and positive difference in the lives of the Acholi people in Northern Uganda. The next week she proposed the club to the school's Student Council and they approved it.
Since then, our club—now known as UFU—has changed from "Uni for Uganda" to "Urbana for Uganda" and finally to "United to Uganda," mirroring the move UFU has taken to try to involve the entire Urbana-Champaign community in this global cause.
The club has indeed grown, but is not spread thin, due to a number of amazing individuals who have stepped up whenever needed to make this club run more smoothly.
Who are we now?
United For Uganda is now a group of students who work towards awareness, education, and fundraising on campus and in the Champaign-Urbana community, with the end to alleviate some of the problems plaguing Ugandan communities. By using direct action models, we work to create a better Uni, a better C-U, and a better society by supporting and engaging in immediate local initatives with an eye to visionary global goals. We are currently part of the Invisible Children's campaign - Schools For Schools program. We are currently helping fund Library and Classroom furnishings at Layibi Secondary School in the Gulu area.
Brief History
UFU has been active for just over two years, yet we have succeeded in founding, leading, and/or giving support to the following

Future Goals
We hope one day to go to Uganda. We also are looking into a benifit concert with the X-Chords and several other local acts, and a weekend festival where Ugandan art, culture, food, etc. is showcased. We are also interested in setting up communications with Layibi Secondary School in Uganda. We are also interested in hosting a charity 3 on 3 basketball tournament in the next year. If you have any suggestions or want to get involved, please contact us!
